Maintenance and servicing

Top priority in the stunning of animals is that the captive bolt stunners function smoothly and fault-free.

Why do I have to service my captive bolt stunner?

The danger emanating from a poorly functioning stunner is all too often neglected. Proper maintenance can prevent unnecessary animal suffering on the one hand and minimise potential hazards from distressed animals due to inadequate stunning on the other hand. Furthermore, the service life of the captive bolt stunners and replacement parts can also be noticeably longer.

Which parts are subject to wear and tear?

Rubber buffers:
The rubber buffer is responsible for the shock absorption of the shot in all our captive bolt stunners.

When a shot is fired, the set consisting of the rubber buffer and spring absorbs the excess force of the bolt after it has entered the animal's skull, so that no unnecessary suffering to the animal or damage to the device is caused.

The wear and tear on the rubber buffers strongly depends on use. The rubber buffer is minimally deformed with every shot. Initially the buffer returns to its original shape. However, this characteristic decreases over time due to repetition until the buffer no longer functions properly and has to be replaced.

Bolt spring:
The job of the spring is to move the bolt back into the stunner after it has penetrated the skull. It also ensures that the bolt remains in the stunner when it is not in use.

It is in the technical nature of springs that they lose their force as they are used.

Conclusion:
Sensible use of ammunition (see picture) and appropriate use of the stunner (animal stunning) can have a considerable influence on the lifetime of the spring and buffer.

Generally speaking:
The stronger the force acting on the system, the more the system wears out.

However, it is important that not only economic efficiency is taken into account here. If you have a heavy animal, do not use weaker ammunition just to save the spring. (The Bullen-Blitz has no bolt spring.)
